Poor Jimmy!

Yesterday when Jimmy got up, he headed right for the phone book! I asked him what was the matter and he said he had to call DR Hagan right away. DR Hagan is our dentist.
He was able to get Jimmy in and looks like a root canal on Thursday morning. Just have to be thankful that he made it through Father's Day!

Father's Day 2013

Yesterday was Father's Day and what a special day Jimmy had! I decided to fix him a light breakfast treat as we were going to meet the kids for dinner.

I like to use Oregon's Harry and David's scone mix when I'm in a hurry. I do drop type scones and they always turn out wonderful. It's strawberry time in Oregon, so I chose this strawberry mix. Jimmy loves strawberries.

I mixed fresh Hood berries with the local raspberries that are just appearing on the market. They aren't real sweet yet, but still yummy!

We collect sterling strawberry forks and it's just fun to use them. They make you enjoy each berry, one at a time. These are two that I found on my Tasha trip back east about seven years ago.

After a nice breakfast, Jim wanted to go back to the downtown library to view Allen Say's work before the exhibit is taken down this week. It was nice to look at the original art work without a crowd.

Then we had to head to the Wong King Seafood Restaurant to meet the kids for the Father's Day dinner. Angie is looking good. Baby Otto is only about 5 weeks away???? We all picked dates last night for the baby's birth! Funny. Chris was also celebrating his Father's Day! He always makes everything sooo fun! Don't they look cute?

Our other cute couple, Eric and Gina, drove down from  Seattle to join the fun. They were both sick but wanted to come! Thanks you guys for the extra effort!

So what did Miss Ava have for her daddy? Something special that she made! Let's see Ava!!!

She made Chris a great fish picture that said she loved her daddy because he was funny and awesome.

She was so excited! That other tooth is just about to come out!

Of course  Barbie had to come the party! She fit right in the soup bowl. Look out Barbie, you better move.

We just all had so much fun. We had to go to Baskin and Robbins for ice cream after the dinner....soooo full!

It sure was a fun day. Love being a "Clan" after all these years of waiting. I'll be babysitting Miss Ava at her house tomorrow.

Tea Time Thursday #17~Another Paragon Beauty

It's been a bit chilly and wet the past few days. Gardening has been put on hold for awhile but the rain has been welcomed, especially by the grass. A few days of showers and the grass greens up!

The flowers are really quite pretty right now with many things in full bloom. Our early spring did cause somethings to bloom early. I love this time before the heat takes it toll on the flowers.

 I have used this little pillow before, but I do love it and it's saying. Do you enjoy gardening?

Vintage advertising items are always fun....flowers were often used and don't you love the basket of pansies.

I decided to take a little tour of my flowering plants in between rain showers. I just love flowers!
You can see some of the rain drops on some. I had to snap quickly between down pours when I was outside.

It is Tea Time Thursday and the weather makes it very inviting to have a warm cup of tea.
I adore Paragon cup and saucers. Here's another one Jim found at a recent sale. I think this one is so pretty. It's called Lilac and the little blue bow is hand painted. You can feel the raised paint that was added. The colors are so soft and dainty.

It makes a perfect mate to the sweet pink one I featured a couple weeks ago. The same blank was used for both cups.

I never get tired of looking at tea cups~even my own! I don't mind a bit of rain here in Oregon. We have such nice weather compared to so many across the America right now. I hope all of you are OK.

Allen Say

A few weeks ago, Jim and I received an email from Jim's friend and children's author and illustrator, Allen Say. Allen invited us to attend an event at the downtown Portland library. It was a showing of 30 of his original art work from his many books, a book signing and a chance to hear Allen speak about his books.

I am  a fan of children's literature and when I was studying to become a teacher, my favorite class was children's lit. Allen's work is delightful. He is also a Caldecott award winner. He has lived in Portland for years now.

The book signing line was quite long! He was very patient and took time to sign all the children's books who waited patiently in that line!

His works were on display around the room and can be seen until the end of June.

This was a young man who learned from Jim that Allen is a fly fisherman too. He was studying to become a nurse. He wanted to know if Allen fished for trout or steelhead! A fellow fisherman for Jimmy to share a few stories.  Allen and Jim have fished together~fly fishing of course!

This is a serious book about the Japanese internment during WWII. It is a must read if you are a fan of Allen's.

This is one of Jim's favorite illustrations as it is just powerful. I love all the children.

The original painting of this mother and child with the tree was on display. It was one of my favorites.

This is Allen's studio in his home. We were invited to visit him there once and got to see some of his works in progress. Just fascinating and a treat. This picture was taken by our local paper-The Oregonian as is the one at the bottom of the page.

Thank you Allen for the invitation to your library event. It was a beautiful day and a great afternoon.

Rhubarb Cobbler~Stephanie's Recipe!

Last week, Stephanie at The Enchanting Rose

posted her yummy recipe for rhubarb cobbler. My hubby loves rhubarb and strawberry pie, so I thought he would like this treat. We were buying some fresh Oregon HOOD strawberries at a stand and they had some rhubarb for sale. I pulled up her blog on my phone to see how much rhubarb I needed for the recipe. I bought some and made the recipe when I got home. It is an easy recipe and the yummiest cobbler I have ever tasted! I did add about a cup of fresh strawberries to the recipe and Jim really liked the addition. I served it with whip cream, but ice cream would be delicious too. So pop on over to her beautiful blog for the recipe and bake up a pan! It is the best cobbler I have ever had.Yummmmmmmy!
