Sunday Thoughts...Grandparent's Day

Sunday Thoughts today take me to the blessing that God gave me to become a mama and now a grandma. How happy this makes my heart and how grateful I am for this gift. I remember asking God years ago to let me marry, let me become a mama and then my biggest prayer was to let me become a grandma. I have shared this story with you many times that I had given up on becoming a grandma and was ok with it. Then God blessed our daughter Angie and our SIL Chris with this little monkey.
His eye is healing and he is better, but  he gets a bit scared when he sees big trees or takes a little fall. That will fade with time.

Today is GRANDPARENT'S DAY! I hope those of you who are grandparents have given it some thought and I hope you have said a little prayer of gratitude for the blessing of a grandchild.

Yesterday, we spent the day with our daughter Angie and little monkey man Otto. We went to some estate sales and he was soooo good. Here he is with his sad little eye, playing with his new little red truck. He's so cute at the sales and loves to pay the clerk for his chosen item. He absolutely loves cars and trucks! Grandpa bought him a little red wagon that he liked. He was hauling all kinds of things in that wagon.

Here he is with his mama and thats my hand in the picture. We were asking him what he wanted to eat. He wanted the bear pancakes but his mama thought Mac and Cheese was a better option. Elmer's Pancake House offered a free meal for all kids this weekend to celebrate Grandparent's Day. Very sweet.

So I thank my God for this beautiful little grandbaby and pray that I will be a good influence in his life. I pray that he will always remember Gama with a smile. 

A Glance at Otto's First Year

Our little Otto Wirth came into our lives one year ago today. Oh, what a year this has been for our family. I am a bit sentimental this afternoon as I work my way through this blog post, but the purpose of my blog has always been to record my personal feelings and journey. This post is just a glance back over Otto's first year with us, so I understand that it isn't for all my readers. My heart is about to burst today and the tears are appearing off and on, tears of sheer happiness! I am so grateful that God allowed Angie to carry this baby to full term. It was a difficult nine months for my daughter and for Chris. Each step was hard and required a great deal of faith along with lots of prayers.  The delivery was not an easy one, but thanks to Gina and Chris, Angie was able to get that little guy out!

Being a grandmother is such a reward for raising our own children! It has brought me unexplainable JOY and HAPPINESS. I told Ang I didn't know I could love a grandbaby as much as I do...almost as much as I love my own two daughters that I was blessed with in my life. Being a grandmother is fulfillment that I was not able to understand....another pure JOY of being a woman. I raised two daughter and my life was filled with pink and dolls and gentle wonder. Now this little guy has been an exciting surprise to me the past year! Blue and trucks and strong little muscles...with lots of giggles and laughs. Having a grandson is a new adventure in my life and I quite like it!

I don't want to forget Otto's sister Ava in this post. We are so blessed to have her as our bonus grandchild! Those of you who know me, know that I would have been a bit sad not to have a granddaughter. Ava loves playing dolls with me and has been so much fun. She has even gotten me back into my vintage Barbie doll! She plays with me all the time and you know how grandmas like that!

So with a grateful heart, I will just be quiet now and let you have a little photo "review" of Otto's first year!

Let's Grow Old Together

I woke up early this morning with too many things on my mind. I tend to do this at holiday times. When I got up, the fire was going and the house was all toasty warm. Jimmy had the fire ready and I really appreciate that! So with my coffee in my hand, I started thinking about what I am thankful for today....my Jimmy. It seems very fitting as this is our 40th year of marriage. I found this postcard online when I was snooping around and I like it!

I am thankful that God has given us many years together. We have had that time to grow and become better partners. We have made mistakes along the way, we have faced hard times...joys and sorrows for sure! Yet we have always loved each other and here we are, still together and still having a grand time.
Becoming grandparents is a blessing and a reward and definitely a reason to be thankful~a gift for growing older.

Provide and protect should be my Jimmy's motto. He has always lived that from our very beginnings as a couple. Thank you Jimmy for taking good care of me for so long. I have a very thankful heart when I think of the past 40 years and I do hope we are granted many more so we CAN grow old together.

Grandparent's Day with Miss Ava

Most of you know that Jimmy and I became grandparents this year. When Chris married our daughter Angie, we also got a little 6 year old granddaughter, Ava. Then we got our little grandson Otto, so we really got a "two for one" special deal! We were invited to our first Grandparent's Day this morning at Ava's school. We sure felt honored and it was really fun there. You can see that happy face on Jimmy in front of the school.

After an assembly, we were invited to visit Ava's first grade classroom. I was a first grade teacher so many years ago, so this was really fun for me. Ava's Grandma Kathy was there too, so Ava introduced us to her little friend Eleanor and said Eleanor didn't have a grandparent visiting today, so she was going to stay with Ava they were both going to read to us! So sweet.

Both girls are excellent readers and they read lots of stories to us. It was great and they were so excited.

Ava likes this one and actually, she had it memoried. She flew through it and had lots of laughs..oinky, oink, oink!

The  room was loaded with books, lots of books! In this day of computers and Kindles, it was just nice to see kids with real books in their hands.

Grandma Kathy and Jimmy were getting a kick out of the girls and thier books. Jimmy had to do a few magic tricks for them too.

Such sweet friends. What a joy to be at school today. We loved every minute of it Miss Ava. We love you too!

Ava will be spending the night with us tomorrow. We will be busy playing and hopefully reading!

Another Very Thoughtful Gift and a Visitor

I am just so touched by the sweet gifts that I have received from my friends to celebrate becoming a grandmother.

The mailman brought me a wonderful package! It's a lovely spoon stamped "Grandma's tea" in the bowl of the spoon. I was just thrilled and amazed at this darling spoon. As an Etsy person myself, I was delighted that it was made by an Etsy artist~Blithe Vintage is the name of the shoppe. Such a clever gifts and I just love it.

When I turned the little card over, I discovered it had been sent by my friend Clarice at Storybook Woods and her family. Thank you all of you! Clarice told me it was also from her mom, my friend, Linda.

I tried to get a good photo of the stamped words...this is the best I could get, but I think you can see the sweet message inside.

Saturday morning, Prince Otto was left at our door for an overnight visit! His mommy, daddy and sister Ava were taking a little trip to Seattle for a break. We were the lucky ones to get the baby! This is just after he arrived and he was wide awake! So cute. His little eyebrows and eyelashes are coming in. Looks pretty fair to me.

He didn't stay awake too long. Sound asleep in his grandpa's arms. Look at these two guys in my life!

I love how he just stretches out and sleeps on his little arm. Ahhhh.....he spends a lot of his time sleeping and growing.

This was Sunday when he was sound asleep in my arms. I love this picture. We did pretty well with Otto's first visit! The new little bed worked out quite well, he took a bottle (mommy has been nursing him) and he slept pretty good at night too. We are still trying to get used to the plumbing of a little boy! We had two daughters so this is very different for the grandparents! We're getting better.

It sure is a blessing to have a grand baby. He's our little angel.
