Pixie Fest on the Oregon Coast

Papa Jimmy and Grandma Linda had a great adventure with the Wirth family last weekend! We had planned to go to the Oregon Coast at Lincoln City for this event, but with all the car problem, we really thought we would be grounded. BUT...we got the car back and were able to drive down to the beach Friday morning. It was so hot and topped out at 89 degrees on Saturday!

As you can see from the photos, the weather was just great! The Pixie Fest was held on the side of the Casino...Chinook Winds.

Jimmy and I used to go to Pixie Kitchen in Lincoln City and took the kids when there were little.It was a fun restaurant with scenes out the window of pixies!  We took my sister Alisa when she was little and she loved Pixie Land!

All of these boards and were in the memory exhibit building. It was just great and so fun to see all of this again!

This flyer is actually on one of the tables from the restaurant. Everyone loved them. They had a center of sand with little shells and things to look at inside.

The night before, we all went to dinner at The Sea Hag in Depot Bay. Jimmy is always ready for a good seafood dinner. It was yummy!

After dinner, we went back to the hotel and the kids wanted ice cream and time in our room WITHOUT their parents. It was so cute.

Gina was also in Lincoln City with a group of students from her school. We did get to see her for about an hour on Saturday morning for a short visit. I think she may be coming home again this weekend.

It was just really a fun weekend. It's great to be a grandparent.

Found Dolly Treasures

I haven't been blogging too much as we are in the process of going through lots of tubs of stuff. We are almost out of one storage unit. I went through all of these tubs on Tuesday. Lots to donate, sell or keep.

One of the treasures I found were these two half doll brushes. They were used as lint brushes or to brush away crumbs. Sometimes, they were just used to decorate a vanity.

They are both marked Germany and do have numbers on their backs.

This is my favorite and the first one I bought. We bought it shortly after we were married...almost 44 years ago.

We finally got my car back after a return to the car repair place. We are hoping to go down to the coast tomorrow for the Pixie Fest. More on that later!

Delectable Mountain Cloth

When I was in Vermont last month, my Tasha Tudor friends wanted to take me to a very specials fabric store. I have been hearing about this shoppe...The Delectable Mountain Cloth...store since my first trip back in 2007. Oh, it is an amazing fabric store, unlike anything I have ever seen! I spent quite some time there and could have stayed even longer! It was like walking into a dream...so pretty and filled with so many delightful fabrics.

This is the owner and her helper. The owner was such a kick and very helpful. The shop has a great appeal for doll makers. Beautiful silks and taffetas.

Don't you just love all the hats? Wonderful.

A lot of the fabric is on rolled bolts.

I was drawn to the flat folds as it was easier to mix and match the fabrics.

This is my little stash from Vermont. I wish you could really see how beautiful these fabrics are. I am hoping to make some doll clothes.

The fabrics were pretty expensive, but so worth every penny.

Future doll clothes...I am hoping! 

Tea Time Tuesday #162

I'm a day late with my Tea Time Tuesday post. It's been an unusual week with my car still out over a week, babysitting Otto and an electrical problem in our home. I am very tired tonight...part of it being stress. I have an early morning kidney test tomorrow. Gina is coming home for Father's Day, so I need to go to bed early as it's house cleaning and shopping tomorrow.

I wanted to share some of my sterling silver tea strainers this week. I do love them and find them so interesting.

This is my latest one...a gift from my Jimmy recently. The design is charming with cutout stars in the bowl.

This is a sweet little one from Port Townsend ,Washington. It was an anniversary gift from Jim.

The middle one is my sterling pattern by Towel. It is quite large, but works so well.

This painted china strainer is one of my favorites. I have had this one for over 40 years. It's so dainty with it's tiny roses painted on it.

I enjoyed my cup of tea this afternoon...I hope you had time for a tea time break.

World Doll Day

Who knew that today was World Doll Day? I have never heard of it but my friend in Vermont, sent me the link this week. World Doll Day is fun to explore and learn more about it.

Some of my larger dolls decided to have a little tea party this morning to celebrate the day! Don't they look fine, all dressed up?

This is my latest doll. My next project is to make her a proper dress. I am currently working on some 4th of July sewing projects for an exchange. When those are finished, I hope to create some doll clothes.

A few weeks ago, one of my Tasha Tudor friend, Julia, sent me this darling china tea set for my dolls. It's so pretty and just the right size.

This is Mildred Seeley pictured on the front of one of her many books. She passed away in 2001. She was quite the doll collector, doll maker and author. She started World Doll Day in 1986. She was very kind to just encourage doll people to give dolls away...to children or other adults. She was very sharing with it all and it was fun to read about her and World Doll Day.

Ebay and Etsy offer many of her lovely doll plates for sale. You will also find some of her many books on both sites if you are interested in them. I have a few on my wish list! Enjoy!

Tea Time Tuesday #161

It's Rose Festival time in Portland, Oregon! It's a time when everything is about roses and the roses are in full bloom now too. The Grand Floral Parade is this coming Saturday. Unfortunately, the weather man isn't promising a very good day for the parade, but we can hope.

For Tea Time Thursday, I HAD to use some of my favorite tea time things...of course...with roses.

This beautiful teacup is just so beautiful, I never get tired of just staring at it. Pink roses are my favorite.

And of course, this happens to be special tea pot too....pink roses, what else?

I had to try a new tea that Jim got for me. I love the little fabric bags that allow the tea to brew so nicely for a bagged tea.

It's called Sweet Love and is quite a delightful spicy and flavorful  blend.

Jimmy brought this sweet beaded piece home last weekend. I asked to keep it as it had roses on it. Yes, he agreed and I just love it.

This was a recent gift from my friend Linnie on my recent trip to Vermont. It's made from a sterling silver knife handle. It has a pin on the back and can be worn with silk or fresh flowers. Isn't it just pretty?

Jimmy and I have been sorting out tubs of stuff in one of our storage units. We need to get out of it by the end of summer and we are making great progress. This is something I found today. It's a great video About Portland...the Rose City. We are going to watch it this evening.

My car is in the shop until Friday, so Angie is going to bring Otto over to our house in the morning. We will have a day at Grandma Linda's and Papa's house.
