Teacup Thursday #53 and the Pittock Mansion

I was reading through the Victoria magazine that arrived this week and I have to admit, I've been a bit disappointed with the magazine since it's been reissued. I loved the original magazine and have all the back copies! I was thinking to myself that even the photography doesn't measure up to what it once was, when I flipped the page over to an article on the Pittock Mansion in Portland. Of course, I got all excited and decided well, maybe the magazine is OK after all.
The mansion was finished in 1914 by Henry Pittock who was the owner of the Oregonian paper. His wife Georgiana founded the Portland Rose Society and helped to start the Portland Rose Festival.

It sits high up in the West Hills and has quite a view of Mt Hood. It's a beautiful home and it's always fun to visit. The magazine article is quite nice and actually made me want to go visit it again!

I don't have a Portland OR teacup, but I do have two sweet demitasse cup and saucers that I can show for Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday. Both are inscribed Souvenir of Portland Oregon.

My friend gave me a a book a few years ago from the gift shoppe at the mansion~Afternoon Tea at the Pittock Mansion Recipes & Reminiscences. I love the photos from the family that are included with wonderful recipes and stories.

The sewing room is one of my favorite rooms in the home. It's so pretty and I love thinking about the  ladies meeting and sewing for charity.

If you get to visit the beautiful Northwest and come to Portland, it is well worth your time to take in the Pittock Mansion. The gift shoppe is very nice too. If you happen to be here in December, the mansion is always decorated according to the theme for the year.

Oh my, what a wonderful place, Linda! Glad you get to visit. The sewing room is lovely!
I haven't gotten my Victoria yet but judging by its cover, it looks lovely. Your teacups are very cute. I especially like the one with the Victorian couple on it. Thanks for visiting. It's always lovely to hear from you! Have a lovely weekend.

Blessings,
Sandi

Bless you, Milady! Thank you for your prayers. Healing in the Lord's care and moving forward at His will. Leaving the world and its ways behind and taking valuable lessons into a new work where His Story is the foundation of all teaching and learning. So grieved to see where education is going these days. Glad I'm out of "the system" and have regained the freedom to teach from a Biblical Worldview. I start my new library job as the children's services coordinator in a couple of weeks and my home school mentor and tutoring business will have plenty of time to get off the ground for classes starting in September. God is good!!

So enjoyed your beautiful posts and such a wonderful tea. I got Victoria and had the freedom to sit and read it cover to cover - marveling at the Pittock Mansion. It reminded me of some of the homes in Newport, RI where I used to live.

Planning some creative activities this week - and a couple ministry teatimes. Hope all your loved ones return home well and blessed!

Joy!
Kathy

I thought the same thing when my Victoria arrived. I visited the Pittock when I lived in Ashland, Or when we were in Portland for a few days and thoroughly loved it! I spent a long time going through the article too! Love your Portland souvenir teacups and the book looks like fun. Great post with great memories!

Hi Linda! I loved your post on the mansion as well as your comments about the magazine. I think I'm missing 3 issues from the years when Nancy Lindemier was the editor. When she left, I was heart broken. The magazine is a bit hit and miss, but it's hard to top perfection.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today and leaving a comment. Life is better...thanks for asking and thanks for thinking of me. That is so sweet of you.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
xoxo Cori

Hello Lady Linda. I visited your blog today - I saw you on sweet Lu's blog. Your blog is lovely. I see that you enjoy tea as much as I do. While I was reading, I noticed that you have two daughters too. Me and my daughters started a blog, and we would love it if you could visit us and follow. I would enjoy coming back to visit with you. Your blog is so charming. My brother-in-law lives in Oregon, and I think it is beautiful there. I hope to hear from you, and have a sweet day.
