That Old Bean Pot!

Jim was digging around in the garage at an Estate Sale recently, and came across this wonderful brown bean pot! We both fell in love with it...great color and great look!.

After our fabulous summer trip to New England, we are both just so fascinated with the region and the things that we find out here in the West. I wonder how thing migrate out here from so far away. I actually found this recipe book at the bins when LaVonne was visiting. I had good intentions of selling it in Jim's booth, but once I got it home and was able to read though it, I couldn't part with it!
The cover is wood and has a paper recipe booklet inside from the 1960's.

Love this opening page about NEW ENGLAND with it's charming vintage print. I know, a bit corny but I just soak it up.

I was hoping to find a recipe for Boston Baked Beans. Yes, there was one waiting. I have looked online too and they are pretty much the same. I haven't had a chance to bake up some beans yet, but think it would be great fun to give it a try in the bean pot!.

In the mean time, the little brown pot just likes it new home...living with the brown butter churn.
It would be interesting to chat with someone who has actually baked up a pot of beans in this type of old bean pot. Happy cooking.

The Mini Doll Fair at the Mull Home

You get to meet the most wonderful people via the internet! I was so pleased to meet two of my Tasha Tudor blogger friends....Heather and Patricia....on the Tasha Tudor Garden Tour. Since then, these two talented young women have started "THE STILLWATER SOCIETY". If you go to my sidebar and hit this button, it will take you to the blog. Of course, there is a connection to Tasha Tudor and you will need to join, but it is a great place to share OLD TIMEY/OLD FASHIONED posts and thoughts. They also have a Facebook Page under the same name and that is a very active and fun site now. Pop on over!

This coming Thursday, Tasha would have been 100 years old, so there will be lots of celebrating on all our groups! Heather has started up her Tasha Tuesdays again on her lovely blog. Another great place to visit...use the button on my sidebar. Heather is a wonderful artist, so check our her blog.

My friends and their daughters didn't get to participate in the big doll fair at the Gathering, so my Tasha friend Melinda, invited them to her home in Manchester, VT for a mini doll fair. Jim and I were going to be in that area to do some sight seeing, so Melinda invited us to join the fun.
Patricia is on the left with her daughter Alice and Heather is on the right with her daughter Audrey. Such cute mamas and darling daughters.

These two girls became the best of friends on the trip and were just having such a grand time together. It was just fun to watch them. Don't you just want to hug them?

They had fun at the fair. They are into the American Girl Dolls, so Melinda had prepared special goodies, just for them!

LaVonne sent little cards and aprons all the way from Montana to be opened at the fair.  So kind.

The grown ups enjoyed it too! Melinda and Pete are wonderful hosts. After the fair, we had a nice BBQ on the porch. Sadly, I didn't get any photos.

This is Robbie...Audrey's little brother...isn't he just too cute!

Here's my big boy....isn't he cute! Ha ha ha.....

I wanted Melinda to show the girls her fabulous doll house, so she took us inside for a tour.

This is a photo from last year when I was at her home. She had it in a different room but I wanted to show the whole house.

Enjoy a little look inside. It is wonderful!

The girls and I were playing house with another dollhouse! They are everywhere and it is just magical.

This is also a photo from last year, but it shows you how sweet and dear Melinda is. I just love her.

Who is the sweet little girl in the framed photograph? One guess...Melinda!

This is Melinda's little Annabelle...just enjoying it all.

Thanks so much Melinda and Pete for opening up your wonderful home to all of us Tasha travelers.

Hello August, Hello Blogging

August is here! A new month and here in Oregon, it is often the hottest month of the year. I am hoping that is not true this year, as it has been so very dry and so very hot most of July. Most yards are just parched and have the look of straw. It is scary to see everything so dry. The entire West is experiencing the same conditions.

August is also the month that my Jimmy and I were married. We will be celebrating on the 4th.

Our home remodeling is FINALLY winding down. I think it should be finished in a day or so. That will be the end of the inside remodeling jobs for this year. A new roof is the next job on the list to  be completed by fall.

As August is also the month of Tasha Tudor's birthday, I am going to be using this month to review our recent NEW ENGLAND vacation. It will be fun for me to share the most wonderful trip of our life. We loved New England~it is a great place to visit and so very different from the west coast. This would have been Tasha's 100th birthday.

I am going to use this opportunity to get back into blogging...it has been a hard year for faithful blogging.

Vermont...Here We Come!

2:00 AM is a very very early time to wake up! That's what time we had to get up to be ready for our ride to the PDX airport for our early morning flight to New Hampshire! It was so hot all night, miserable, and we didn't sleep much. Our nephew Markie was so kind to give us a ride to the airport.
Our flight to O'Hare was on time and it was a really smooth flight.

We fly into O'Hare often, so we are pretty familiar with it. It's a big airport, but pretty easy to navigate. Our flight to Manchester, NH was on time and all was well.

The weather was cloudy and it was a turbulent flight towards the end....ugh.

The Manchester airport is small and we got our luggage~all 3 bags arrived safe and sound. Our rental car was waiting. We never could get on the route we wanted to Vermont, so we just gave up and had Helga (the GPS on our phone) guide us in!

We are staying at the Holiday Express in Brattleboro VT for a few days of sightseeing. The Tasha Tudor Garden, HomeTour and the Gathering will be on Wednesday.

The nice lady at the front desk told us about the Marina restaurant. The good was soooo yummy. We met the managers...Lori and Leo....so nice and so much fun. They got us a map and told us all kinds of fun places to go in the area.

We were so tired, I'm not sure how we made it though dinner! We went back to our hotel and fell fast asleep! A great start for our vacation!
