Monday Made

My friend LaVonne has been here in Oregon for over a week and has to return to Montana tomorrow. She splits her visit between me and her daughter. She brings some of her dolls on these annual trips and we often have some dolly fun with them. I decided to make her Hitty and my Hitty a new fall dress. Here they are in the tea room with their new frocks. Hitty of MT is also wearing her cute shawl which Hitty Autumn was really admiring!

I ordered a pattern on Ebay by a Tasha Tudor friend who is on my Take Peace FB page. It is tiny, as Hitty is only about 6 1/2" tall. I am trying to learn how to be successful with doll clothes making.

Setting in little sleeves is quite a challenge.

Hitty's New Quilt

I love this book! It's such a charming book about the life of a little wooden carved doll. It goes through her first 100 years.  As a doll person, I had to have a Hitty doll. Most of my friends in my Tasha Tudor group have a Hitty doll too. Mine is not a hand carved version, but I like her face and she is quite fine.

All the illustrations are done in black and white. Here she is in her little cradle with a quilt.

A few weeks ago, I found a little quilt kit on Etsy. I thought it would be fun to make it for my Hitty.
It's a very small quilt.

Here she is, sitting on her  finished little quilt. I love the colors.

I'm not a hand quilter, but one of my Tasha friends encouraged me to  quilt the little quilt by hand with a simple criss cross pattern. It's not perfect but I did have fun giving it a try. It looks cute with the handwork. Actually, the most difficult part was the binding, as it is really tiny. The finished quilt is 5 1/2" x 5 1/2".

I found the cradle a few years back and it just happened to be the right size and all for Hitty. It's pretty close to the one in the book. So I made some bedding for her to match the quilt and she is quite happy with it.

She's snug as a bug in a rug! 

Tea Time Thursday #65~ ❤Sharing Valentine Exchanges❤

Oh, how I love Valentine card exchanges! Before the month slips away, I want to share some more fun that I had this year with my Tasha Tudor Take Peace group and my Afternoon Tea Across America (ATAA) group. I always have to wait to do these posts as I don't like to give away my surprises before the holiday. The excitement begins with a trip (or two) to the craft store to gather up paper and a variety of goodies for the occasion.

This is my offering for ATAA...I cut out the teapots, glued paper heart doilies onto the card and then deocrated the post with bits and pieces. This year we were to enclose a sample of tea and a favorite recipe. I sent a recipe for Marmalade Muffins that was from a Crabtree and Evelyn cookbook that I love.

My Tasha Tudor exchange was a little bit different. We send a tiny Valentine card from our dolls to the other dolls. I like to include tiny gifts for the dolls too.  It's fun to send tea and little candies too.

I had this glass mailbox that I have had for years. I thought it would be fun to put my incoming Valentines in it, as I like to open my cards on Valentine's Day.

I have shared the fun I have with my friend Lynda and the friendship ball. I have been hoping to find another one to have fun with LaVonne. I found one a few weeks ago...perfect timing!

I filled the ball with tiny gifts for Miss Annabelle. We will send it back and forth now...yes!

The little red shawl was for Hitty! It is tiny and well made. I had to try it on and it fit perfectly.

Doll Show Results!

Jim and I went to the doll show here in Portland OR last Saturday. It's put on by a group called Crossroads and they come twice a year. Oh, temptation and fun! Have you ever read the book
about the little doll called Hitty? It's a great story. Here is my Hitty doll in her new outfit! She is also sitting on the new chair I wrote about on my Tasha Tudor Day blog. It fits her perfectly. I have had her for a few years but I found her some outfits at the show...pretty exciting.

My Hitty doll is a Robert Raikes doll so it was really great to find some outfits made for her by the same company. They had never been opened. I love the blue on she's wearing as it came with a dress, bonnet, slip, pantaloons and an apron!

This is a cloth faced doll from Russia. I don't know why, but I fell in love with her. Her dress has great fabrics and her little shoes are amazing. I have been collecting tea cozy dolls from Russia and this doll is similar. I really need to find out more about them.

Then I found this sweet little lady, who is also a tea cozy doll. She isn't in the best condition, but don't you love her sweet face? How could I leave her behind?

I collect nuthead dolls...you don't find a lot of them. One of the vendors was selling off her grandmother's doll collection and she had some really interesting dolls. She did have one nuthead...a little guy, so I had to get him for my collection. He's from the Blue Ridge Mountain region and had a little tag.
She also had a seed pod doll from South America 1951. I love her dress and thought she was a great addition to my folk art collectible dolls. My friend LaVonne collects wishbone dolls, but I have never seen one at any of the shows I have attended.

It was such a good show. More vendors have been coming that antique and collectibles so that warms my heart. The last purchase was a little tin bread box. It just called to me and goes well in brownsville.
Can't wait for the next show in February!
