A Sad Day In My Little City of Troutdale

I live in small city about 22 miles outside of Portland OR. I love Troutdale and it has been our home for almost 38 years now. It's a quiet little town between the Columbia River and the Sandy River.

This is a photo of one side of our main street with some cute little shoppes and restaurants.

This is the local high school....Reynolds High School....which is about 2 miles away from our home. I drive by the school many times a day. It's one of the largest high schools in Oregon and it's a busy place at the end of the day with students everywhere. It's a 20 miles school zone, so I have to drive by pretty slow.

This was the scene today at the Fred Meyer's Grocery Store where parents were being reunited with their children after a tragic shooting at the school. A young freshman student was shot and killed by a shooter who came into the school with a rifle. A brave teacher, who was grazed by the shooter's bullet, was able to alert the school and set the lock down procedure into effect. This is NOT the scene I see when I go to the store!  Anxious parents waited for hours to hug their kids.

Just last week, there was a school shooting in Seattle at the university. Now today, it's right in my backyard. It was just so upsetting all day. My prayers are with the families who lost their children today. I just feel bad for my little city of Trourdale.

Such a shame! A sign of the times happening all over the world, what on earth do we do to stop it? Thinking of you and your little town.

I'm so sorry :( I watched it on the evening news tonight but totally forgot that that's where you are. What is happening in this country??? I'm so scared for my 2 niece and nephew. What will things be like for them (and your little Otto) if it keeps up like this? Something has to change!
Hugs to you, my friend! And PRAYERS too!

Both shootings were sad situations. Brave heros prevailed in protecting many at both schools. But it's so sad for the families of those who lost loved ones. I was thinking of you as this unfolded. You do live in a beautiful town --- and it's sad when such awful things happen in good communties.
