Gathering Fabric on my New England Trip

I am a total fabric nut! I love fabric...vintage fabric, new fabric, recycled fabric, estate sale fabric, antique store fabric...you name it,! I can assure you that i am going to look at it and probably be tempted to rescue it or buy it and just take it home with me. I adore fabric.

A year ago, my friend Melinda talked with me about making her A is for Annabelle quilt. She has been so kind to me, so I decided to offer to make her quilt for her when I was visiting again this year. She agreed to send it home with me and I hope to work on it this winter. The fabrics were made by the RJR fabric company for the Tasha Tudor family. The sweet fabrics are just darling. I missed getting a kit for myself, but I have been buying fabric when I can find it, so I hope to make my own quilt in the future. I actually have an idea roaming around in my head.

This is what the finished quilt will look like using the kit. It should be fun and I don't think it will be too hard. Yes, I do have a BIG winter project ahead. Yeah....

When I was shopping at the Rookery, the Tasha tudor gift store, I asked if they had any fabric. They had a bit upstairs, but I had to wait for all the shoppers to be checked out before they could take me upstairs to look at what they had in stock. I was happy to wait. This is what I was able to get! Not all of it is from the A is for Annabelle collection, but I bought what I liked.

 As Jim and I traveled on through Vermont after the Tasha Tudor event, we stopped at the Norton House quilt shop. I did get to stop there last year and it was the only quilt shop I got to go to on our trip. I couldn't resist a variety of fall fabric...another weakness. This is a beautiful fat quarter packet I bought.

I was really excited to find this pattern. I have been looking for a cute pillow pattern that would allow me to use a vintage or new embroidered center. This is perfect!

 I found a neat printed set to do some embroidery work in turkey red...great for a small wall hanging, pillows or small quilt.

I also found this cute little pattern for Ms Mouse. I just liked it and thought it would be a fun project.

We visited a lot of antique shops on our trip too and I found these two coordinating fabrics in a dollar bin. They aren't old, but I just liked the colors and the print.

I found this piece of fabric at the same shop...just so Deerfield!

 One of the antique shop had this lovely set of vintage quilt blocks, all sewn by hand. I always want to rescue quilt blocks. The colors are too cool.

I also love little dolly quilts. This little charmer just jumped into my arms.  I do love this time period too.

This is a little pillow sham made during the 30's or 40's. It's a Dresden plate, sewn on with a black blanket stitch. Theses fabrics make me happy!

So as you can see, I found a nice assortment of fabric on my trip. I think I should be set for awhile.

Fun Over the Weekend

Wade Creek House is a favorite destination not too far from home. We often take the pretty drive out to Estacada OR about every season to see what the little shop has to offer. They were having an outdoor Vintage show, so we wanted to see what it was like.

Look who was driving this vintage truck! CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK! Jimmy tried to hop a ride.

Wade Creek hads a cute chicken coop and a little garden. I didn't know they had bees! Boy, they were humming away. It's always good to see an active hive!

Fun booths with fun items. It wasn't a huge sale, but it offered a nice variety of goodies with lots to look at and enjoy.

Here's a look at the outside booths. It was a bit overcast, so it wasn't too hot. I really enjoyed the show. Jim found a great Aurora chair for $13. He was actually looking for another one.

Sunday afternoon, we headed up the Columbia River Gorge to the small town of Bingen. It's on the Washington side. We found a great antique mall. Jim is doing a nautical theme for his October show and was delighted to find this anchor.

We love to go to museums and were thrilled to find this little museum in Bingen. It had been a Presbyterian church at one time. The volunteer said his father had helped to build the building.

My favorite display was the country store. Old Jimmy loves to ring the register. The display had two of them!

Of course I'm going to find the sewing machine and quilts. Love this old quilt. I think the star background fabric is quite charming.

A wonderful look into the heart of the home...the kitchen!

This huge spinning wheel was on a shelf above the door. It was quite large.

We left the museum and were headed home when we came upon a little tasting room for a local winery. It was called White Salmon Vineyard. We enjoyed a delightful man named Doug. He was a friend of the owners and being retire, this was just a fun job for him. I think he was actually paid with bottles of wine. Anyway, he spent so much time with us and we really learned a lot.

At the end of our visit, we were getting hungry. Doug suggested that we try a place called Everybody's and he gave us directions. Oh my goodness...great fun! I had a sweet potato burrito that was so delicious!  We sure had a fun day.

Sunday Thoughts

Good morning to you on this peaceful Sunday morning. The house is quiet and I love early mornings for my quiet time.

This has been quite a busy summer in many ways. It has also been a summer when God answered my prayer for some family healing after two years....just took it over and bam! I am a private person, so won't go into details, I am just so very thankful.

The Mini Doll Fair at the Mull Home

You get to meet the most wonderful people via the internet! I was so pleased to meet two of my Tasha Tudor blogger friends....Heather and Patricia....on the Tasha Tudor Garden Tour. Since then, these two talented young women have started "THE STILLWATER SOCIETY". If you go to my sidebar and hit this button, it will take you to the blog. Of course, there is a connection to Tasha Tudor and you will need to join, but it is a great place to share OLD TIMEY/OLD FASHIONED posts and thoughts. They also have a Facebook Page under the same name and that is a very active and fun site now. Pop on over!

This coming Thursday, Tasha would have been 100 years old, so there will be lots of celebrating on all our groups! Heather has started up her Tasha Tuesdays again on her lovely blog. Another great place to visit...use the button on my sidebar. Heather is a wonderful artist, so check our her blog.

My friends and their daughters didn't get to participate in the big doll fair at the Gathering, so my Tasha friend Melinda, invited them to her home in Manchester, VT for a mini doll fair. Jim and I were going to be in that area to do some sight seeing, so Melinda invited us to join the fun.
Patricia is on the left with her daughter Alice and Heather is on the right with her daughter Audrey. Such cute mamas and darling daughters.

These two girls became the best of friends on the trip and were just having such a grand time together. It was just fun to watch them. Don't you just want to hug them?

They had fun at the fair. They are into the American Girl Dolls, so Melinda had prepared special goodies, just for them!

LaVonne sent little cards and aprons all the way from Montana to be opened at the fair.  So kind.

The grown ups enjoyed it too! Melinda and Pete are wonderful hosts. After the fair, we had a nice BBQ on the porch. Sadly, I didn't get any photos.

I wanted Melinda to show the girls her fabulous doll house, so she took us inside for a tour.

The girls and I were playing house with another dollhouse! They are everywhere and it is just magical.
