So, we get an extra day this year! Don't you think Leap Year is so odd. I guess we should use the day to get lots done or go and play! I wish I could just have a grand time, but too much work to do, so will grab a coffee, get the fire going, and get to work.

Another Adoption

I seem to be in the business of adopting dolls this year! Jim and I were at a sale last Thursday and I was looking at a pile of stuffed animals, all just thrown together. I spotted this fine lady and was so excited to find a peg doll! I didn't see her price, but was packing her around until I found Jim again. I showed him my new found doll and told him I didn't know how much she was. Then he showed me the sticker I had missed on her arm- $1! I almost had a heart attack.

I'm not sure if she's really very old or not, but I just love her. She's meeting all the dolls in the tea room and getting comfortable with her new home. She is a lucky lady and so am I! I must find a name for her soon. I haven't named my other peg doll yet either.

Another Lovely Doll Maker

Last week when I was at the doll show, I met a lovely local doll maker-Aleta Breese. I had purchased some special ribbon at an antique mall and I didn't know it was her space. She had all the spring colors at the doll show and I had to buy some in anticipation of Easter projects...don't they look like Easter Egg colors?
Here is a picture of her booth...so sweet and feminine, light and cherry. She was so kind to share about her dolls and bunnies. Of course I fell in love with them. I guess I'll have to save up for another special doll! All these talented doll makers...I am fascinated by them all.

I was out shopping with my husband yesterday and when I we came home, I slammed the car door on my hand. It sure hurt and today my finger is a purple sausage with cuts and bruises. I'm afraid I'm a bit slow today. I am thankful that nothing is broken.

Teacup Thursday #47 and the Doll Show

I was looking over my blogs from last year as I couldn't remember when I joined Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday. It's coming up to a year in March. Today is my #47 post. It's a pretty burgundy color and a simple design with a lovely handle.

The cup and saucer are made by the Spencer Stevenson company and it was made in England. One of the reasons I chose it was because the color goes with my new peg doll that I found at the doll show last Saturday. She's quite lovely and I love the colors in her dress. She's has a lighter frame and quite a pensive look on her face. I love peg dolls.

I wanted to share these other items I recently found. These little children's gloves came from Paris...so very sweet.

I found this little autograph book from 1920 for $1.00! It's from Australia and so charming.

I just couldn't leave this sweet little rack behind. I think I'm going to hang some vintage lace on it in my tea room. My youngest daughter always calls me mama and I just love it. Maybe she'll have this someday.

President's Day Weekend

It's President's Day Weekend...a three day weekend for many working folks. Now that Jim and I are retired and loving it, these holidays seem a bit different. I'm having a cup of coffee this quiet morning, catching up on some blogs and checking out some new blogs. Old Abe and George could never have imagined the world we live in not!
I was thinking about these two presidents and how we used to study them when I was little. I have always loved history and I guess I have nostalgic memories of grade school. Making black cut out silhouettes always pops into my mind! Did you make those when you were young? While we learned funny little facts about these men, we also gained a respect for the presidency. Watching primaries and hearing the latest scandal about JKF, it's really quite sad how things have changed in the political arena.
I don't want to get political here, but I wish a candidate could come from a grass root level, like Lincoln, and have a chance to become president. That's just never going to happen now. Seems you have to sell your soul and be backed by huge amounts of money to become president. That makes me sad for the good old USA.
So, on to a cheerier note, I have had a fun weekend. Jim and I went to a few estate sales...more inventory for Jim's March antique show and my Etsy shoppe! We went to a wonderful doll show yesterday (will blog more on that later) and tonight we're going to our daughter's house for an belated birthday dinner for Jimmy. Tomorrow, I'm going to help my friend Judi work on a quilt for a new grandbaby one the way. She's never quilted, so this will be a new adventure for her.
I need to bake a cake this morning for the birthday boy!

Teacup Thursday #46

This week has been so much fun and I have really enjoyed all the beautiful blog post centered around Valentine's Day! I'm sorry it is over, but I will leave my decorations up until the end of the month and enjoy all the cards I received. It's Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday and I saved one of my Valentine gifts to share today. Actually, I ordered these two pink Lusterware cup and saucers for myself from Christine LeFever. I have been looking for one to honor Tasha Tudor and she had a pair on her website. I was thrilled because she too is a Tasha fan.Anyway, I didn't open my package until yesterday and I'm delighted to share them today. They are so dainy and sweet.

This is the little note she tucked into my box...so cute.

Happy Valentine's Day~February 14th

What a fun day filled with cards, treats, tea time, dinner and lots of love! I baked some heart scones this morning while Jim took my dad to the cemetery...such a kindness to my father. An easy drop scone recipe and fun to make. I filled the center with Mackay's 3 berry Scottish preserves. I sprinkled the finished baked product with powered sugar. Yummy!

When Jim came home, it was time for tea. Just scones and tea as we wanted to go out for an early dinner tonight.

It was the perfect time to use the little snack sets my friend Kristen had give to me for Christmas.

Scones my dear? Cup of tea....milk or sugar? Let's make a toast to love and enjoy the day!

After tea, it was time for gifts and opening my Tasha Tudor Valentine exchange cards. I like to save my up for the 14th. Here they are just waiting to be opened and shared.

Annabelle received lots of cards for her friends too. She even got a box of French pastries from her friend in Massachusetts in a little pink box.

Of course, Annabelle wasn't the only one who got lots of cards and little treats from her friends~

I promised that I would post some pictures of the Valentines I made for my Tasha friends after Valentines, so here they are! I used Terri's pattern from Artful Affirmations for her elegant shoes. I had to make them more flat for mailing. Thanks for the inspiration Terri. I really had so much fun making them.

Of course Jim and I had some presents for each other too. He gave me a darling vintage sterling sewing kit that I adore. Isn't it charming?

This is the hickory nuthead doll we found a few weeks ago. I'm not sure how old this one is but her dress is made from a really great older fabric. LaVonne, my fellow nuthead friend, sent me this cute vintage Valentine and I had to show it off with my new nuthead doll.

I gave my sweetheart a wonderful book on Anri woodcarvings and a set of Anri bookends. He's totally absorbed in his new hobby!

As the day slips away, what a happy heart I have tonight. I love Valentine's Day! I love you Jimmy!

February 12th and the Lincoln Diamond

Today is the day we used to celebrate Abraham Lincoln's birthday~February 12th! Now we celebrate Lincoln and Washington's birthdays together on President's Day. I prefer to keep them separate, especially since this is the day Jim and I were engaged now 39 years ago! He was going to wait until Valentine's Day, but he just couldn't wait. Jim's home is Springfield, Illinois- Land of Lincoln-so we have always called my ring the Lincoln Diamond. His Uncle Victor was a jeweler and Jim bought the ring from him after he sold one of his rifles to pay for it. Uncle Victor shipped it out to Oregon from Providence, Rhode Island in a little box and it wasn't sent insured or registered. Can you believe it sat out in a rural mailbox on a busy street?

Springfield is a wonderful place to visit if you are a fan of Abraham Lincoln. In 2005, a new Presidential
Library and Museum was opened. It is fantastic. I have become so interested in Mary Todd Lincoln and the time period, not all the war things, but the life style, how families lived, and I love the fashion of the day. Lincoln's home is a must see if you are in Springfield.
These are a few Lincoln books I just found. The little round paper weight is something I got on my very first visit to Springfield almost 40 years ago. It has the Gettysburg Address on the backside.

Last week we were in Aurora, Oregon and we found this sweet little plate of Mrs. Lincoln. I just about jumped for JOY! What and interesting find.

This sparked my interest in Mary Todd again. Jim gave me a wonderful 1859 Godey bound book of the twelve months of that year. I was enjoying just looking through it. The Godey magazines were kind of like the Martha Stewart magazines of today. Don't you love the evening gown?

When I was in the Lincoln's Home gift shoppe I found this wonderful book about Mary todd and her dress maker Elizabeth Keckley...an interesting story of friendship indeed. Good reading. If you go to the Lincoln Museum, you will see the display of Mary's gowns and her dress maker in a grand display.

Mary was the first to have a presidential set of dishes. You can actually buy reproductions of the pattern at the museum. I have a little ornament I hang on my tree but would love to own a teacup. Here's the pattern....

The other day, we had a discussion on my Tasha Tudor group about a Washington cake. I decided to look and see if there happened to be a Lincoln cake and there are a couple! There's also a book out with recipes from the Lincoln family and what was served during the Civil War called Lincoln's Table. I hope to get it!

Here's a recipe from the book for the Mary Todd Lincoln Cake from the book. She is sad to have made this for him while the were engaged and through out their lives together. I haven't tried it yet, but the reviews were quite good.

1 cup blanched almonds (chopped until it resembles a course flour)
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 cup milk
6 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla
confectioner's sugar
Preheat oven 350 degrees....grease and flour a Bundt pan ( I know Mary didn't have one of these!)

Cream butter and sugar. Sift flour and baking powder 3 times. Add to creamed butter and sugar, alternating with milk. Stir in almonds and beat well.
Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into batter. Stir in vanilla.
Pour into prepared pan and bake for 1 hour.
Turn out on a wire rack and cool.
When cool, sift confectioner's sugar over the top.

A basic white frosting sprinkled with almonds was also popular.

Happy Birthday to my sweet husband Jim! No, I didn't make this cake or even buy it....he's not much of a frosting man. I am making him a yellow sheet cake with special orange butter icing.He loves orange anything doesn't like a lot of sugary things. Anyway, I have his coffee ready and the fire is going. He's be off at 10 AM with his friend to spend the day roaming the sportsman show. They are both fly fishing enthusiast, so this will be a fun guy day.

Happy Birthday my Jimmy! I love you. Thanks for all you do for your family. God will honor and bless you for your unselfish gifts of love for us all.

February 9th and Teacup Thursday #45

Welcome to another Teacup Thursday with Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday! I can't believe this is my 45th posting. I've almost been a member for a whole year. It's early in the morning and I just finished getting the last of my Valentines ready for posting. Sometimes, I just like to stay up and work until I get things done. I have been making MANY trips to my local post office this week!

I did take pictures of the finished projects and will post them later. I don't want to give away the surprise!
Ok, back to my teacup. I have been looking for some this color and so far, I have found two. Ruth posted a very pretty one last week that I really liked. This one is a Royal Stafford.

I really like red glass and enjoy putting it out for Christmas and Valentines. Here's a few of my favorite pieces.

Well, I better go to bed before I doze off here. Jim's birthday is this Friday and I need to bake him a cake tomorrow. He's going to the Sportsman Show with his friend Len on Friday. He's managed to pick up a cold again.
I just love all the pretty things that everyone has for Valentine's Day and I can't wait to visit other's blogs tomorrow,oops, that's today!

I adore cameos! Isn't this a beautiful heart shaped one? It's for sale on Ruby Lane. I have a lovely one that Jim gave me when I graduated from college. My sweet sentimental husband has given both of our daughters a special cameo, just from him.
I got all my Tasha Valentines mailed yesterday for my Sparrow Post Exchange...down to the wire on the deadline this year. I will post pictures of them after the 14th~can't spoil the surprise.
Jim's birthday is on Friday so I need think about a cake for him. He's going to the Sportsman show with his good fiend on Friday. We're actually going to celebrate the big day a the following week. Angie is cooking him dinner and Gina and Eric will come down from Seattle. It's just hard with everyone's different schedules, but we're retired, so it's easy to be flexible!
The wind has been blowing for a week now. It's much lighter today, but oh, still blowing. Such is winter in Troutdale and the East Wind.

Isn't this Valentine quilt just fantastic!!! I found the pattern for a place in Texas called Stitchin' Heaven. This is a block of the month quilt and I love it. Looks like a lot of work but what a treasure when it's done. Maybe someday.......

Today begins the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of England's Queen Elizabeth! She became the queen 60 years ago today when her father passed away. It will be interesting to follow the celebrations through out the year. This is her official photograph.

Pretty impressive and regal photo. I think she looks quite lovely and I love her crown. I so wish her shadow wasn't in the photo.

This is one of the teacups that is available to commemorate the event! I like this design. I hope to get one this year for my collection.

I chose this Valentine for my blog today because I've been on this Queen Victoria kick. If you read my blog a few days ago, I commented on the book I am reading about Queen Victoria and her daughters.
A few weeks ago at the antique show I bought a beautiful Queen Victoria cup and saucer with some of my Christmas money. I was soooo excited! I have lots of queen "stuff" but I didn't have a Queen Victoria teacup. So here it is. I was going to save it for May, but just couldn't wait. I love it.

The teacup commemorates the Queen's Diamond Jubilee of 1897 and was made by Longton Porcelain Company.

Happy February! A new month and a fun one at that. I love Valentines Day and hearts and flowers.
I'm going to do a Valentine's advent type calendar on my blog. I need something to get me back into blogging and this will be a fun way to do it. After working on my Etsy the past few days, I am going to have a fun crafting day today. It's time to start working on my Tasah Tudor Valentine exchange. The cards have to go in the mail next Monday...yikes! This sweet February angel is on my Etsy. So cute.

Queen Victoria

I've been reading a wonderful book that my husband gave me at Christmas- Victoria's Daughters by Jerrold M. Packard. I love the Victorian times and enjoy learning everything I can about the queen. It's an easy read and a fun book to cuddle up with at the end of the day. I tend to read more in the summer, but I can hardly put this one down! The only thing about reading at night is I can't stay awake too long to enjoy the book...I get sleepy.

The book give a lot of history about Queen Victoria as you go along the birth of each of her children. It does focus on her daughters but you are given a great deal of information about all the children and life in Victorian times.

I've always wondered why tartan plaid was so popular during the Victorian era. I didn't realize that Queen Victoria was crazy about it when she bought and rebuilt the castle at Balmoral. She really gave the local cottage industry a short in the arm with her love of plaids. I read that some of her decorating was over the top with her use of tartan plaids. I'd really like to explore more about this! I often see sewing antiques in plaid boxes from that time period. I'm sure some of my tea friends have been to this region. It is a beautiful place. Maybe someday......

I did read that Albert designed a Balmoral tartan plaid.

The rains have stopped and while the sun isn't shining today, it is dry! I think I need a cup of tea now. My friend brought me some from Scotland last year and I think I have one left! The perfect day to enjoy.

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Oh, what a wet, wet, wet day! So much rain once again. Yes, it is winter in Oregon yet it is hard to be in and out in this weather.
Jim and I went to a few sales today. He scored big at one with wonderful art and interesting pieces. He sold so much and needs to replace his inventory for the March 1,2 and 3rd antique show that really is not too far away. We had to do quite a bit of driving and the rain was endless.
It was so good to come home, get the fire going, fix a little dinner and just get cozy.
Tomorrow begins a new week with much to do and a new month ahead....February. Oh, I love February and Valentines and red and pink hearts and yes, chocolates. I am reminded of my theme for the year...is your heart right? Time to reflect.

Teacup Thursday #43

I just have had so many things going, I can't seem to get to my blog except to post my Teacup Thursday posts! Another week has slipped by. I spent last weekend helping Jim set up his booth for his antique show at the Clark Co Fairgrounds in Washington. I forgot to take my camera when we set up, so these pictures are from the last day. He had a very successful show! The next one will be in March at the Expo Center in Oregon.

I'm now the owner of this darling wooden cradle.

I think I need to make a quilt for this one. Next project???
Here's something that I got last summer in Port Townsend and I never got to share it. It's a glove press...pretty cool, huh?

Oh yes, it is Teacup Thursday! I was going to show another Christmas gift, but I packed it away until after Valentines. It will make a good spring feature. I do have one to share that was also a gift. My friend Lynda gave this to me as she thought it should live in my tea room. It's a bit different as it's a moustache
cup. It's really lovely and is marked but I just can't read it at all.

As most of you know, I'm a big Tasha Tudor fan. I received my first newsletter from the Tasha Tudor Museum. It is so exciting, wonderful reading with lots of pictures. I so hopeful that the family will be able to build a very special museum...maybe open her home someday as a museum!

Teacup Thursday #42

I can't believe that I didn't post at all since last Teacup Thursday! Here it is Thursday and time for Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday. It was a busy week and the quilt retreat was just great. I forgot how nice it was to actually attend one as a guest. I hope to still do a post about it.

I'm sharing two more gifts from dear friends. Kristen gave me 3 lovely rose snack tray sets made my Lefton, hand painted. She was here last Valentine's Day from MA and this was part of my Christmas present. They just go so perfect in my tea room...sweet of her to pick something so perfect.

Last year, some of my friends decided to participate in a handmade gift exchange. When I saw my friend Lisa from California at the retreat, she had my gift for me. It's so darling and again, just the perfect colors for my tea room. She made it and I'm going to slip my Valentine cards into it...won't that be cute?

I love the ribbon rose in the corner . Thanks so much dear Lisa...you did a great job.

When I was taking down my Christmas things and putting back my everyday items in my tea room, I found this sweet little book. It's been filled in and came from a very small town in Central Oregon.

Here's an entry for "Thrusday" that is very sweet and the author offers some advise.

Winter paid us a visit last night...a beautiful snowfall. Temps warmed up this morning and it's all gone tonight. Now there's concern about all the rain that is coming our way and flooding. Ah, winter.

Teacup Thursday #41

Oh my goodness, this week slipped by so quickly! It's time for Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday once again. I do hope our friends are well and over their colds. Donna and her family have been working so hard on their new B&B to accompany their lovely tea room. I am hoping to visit this year with some of my Tasha Tudor Kindred Spirits.
Isn't this a beautiful teacup? My dear friend Angie Bickerton gave it to me for Christmas. It's so elegant and such a lovely gift. Thanks again Angie for such a perfect gift!

I love this book "If Teacups Could Talk" and it was one of the first tea books I bought quite a few years ago. I was thinking how fun it would be if all my teacups could talk and tell you about each dear friend that has given me a special gift. Don't you think it's amazing how many different teacups were made? I am constantly surprised each week as you share your cup and saucers with me on Teacup Thursday. I also enjoy the other posts from Tea Cup Tuesday, etc. I can barely keep up with one per week....don't know how you can handle more that one! This sharing has given me new internet friends and I have learned so much about the many companies that made or are still making teapots and teacups.

So, back to my cup for today. It's made by Kaiser of West Germany. I had to do a bit of research on it as I have never had a cup with these marks.

This is another gift I was given at Christmas from my friend Kristen who lives in Massachusetts. I don't know if she knew that I had admired one on a Teacup Thursday post and was wishing for one! It's a lovely lacy tea cozy-just for show. The little paper shoe resting on it is made by Christine LeFever. I love it.

I found this little purse at the bins a few years ago and I thought it went with todays offerings. It lives in my tearoom.

I won't be on the computer this weekend. I'm going away to a quilt retreat at Piece Lodge in Washington. It will be a treat to attend one and not have to be giving one! I hope to get some projects done.
I took a lot of photos today for my Etsy shoppe and have done the editing. I need to post them now, so I better be getting back to work. My knee is a bit better today. I hope it's a lot better by Friday for my trip.
Yesterday, it was hurting so badly, I could hardly walk. I may be seeing a doctor soon.

A Lovely Sunday~More Dolls to Admire!

Jim and I took the day off and headed out for Oregon City and the the country. We made a stop at one estate sale and then stumbled into The Oregon Antique Mall in Oregon City. It has recently opened by new owners Trish and Scott and they were just delightful. The building has been redone, is light and airy, and the staff was so kind and helpful. They offer free coffee and they have provided a nice little area to just sit and chat with other customers.

We had so much fun and found some treasures of course. While I was wondering around, I found two booths that belong to one of our local doll makers, Christine LeFever. Her dolls are lovely and you might enjoy her blog which I have listed in my blogs that I follow. Here's a few pictures of some of her dolls from her blog pictures.

I also found some sweet little books that she has written. So cute and just perfect for all the things I love.

Oh yes, one more thing...Christine LeFever is also a fan of Tasha Tudor...need I say more?

After our shopping, Jim and I drove out to our friends Pat and Bernie Hintz's farm to buy some apples, walnuts, pears, onions, their delicious apple cider and potatoes. They are just so funny and we had such a nice chat with them. Stopped at our favorite little cozy restaurant Top O Hill restaurant for a comfort
food dinner.

I'm watching season 2 of Downton Abbey- the perfect ending of a perfect day. A gorgeous full moon is out tonight too.

Teacup Thursday #40

My dear friend Sha gave me this wonderful book on tea in the East and it's a lovely different look at enjoying tea. It's filled with wonderful yummy and interesting recipes along with beautiful pictures.

Years ago, I bought this three piece cup that is just great for brewing a single cup of loose tea. The lid becomes a coaster. I have been wanting to find a couple more to share tea with my girls when they come over or my company. I think they're great because everyone can choose their own tea and with the built in strainer, the little cups really brew a nice cup of tea!

Jim and I went to a flea market last Sunday. The first thing I saw when I walked through the door was two of these cups. I was so excited as I have looked on the internet and have not been able to find any more to order.

The rose pattern is the original. My new cups feature a flying crane and all are a lovely shade of green.

Knitting

I was moving some boxes around the other day and found my tub marked knitting. I pulled my needles out and decided to try a bit of knitting again. I am such a beginner, but I like to sit and knit. I found some blue wool yarn at the bins a few weeks ago and discovered some lighter blue in my stash that went so nicely with it. I found a great DVD last summer at the bins, so popped it in the player and worked my way through the refresher course. Perfect! I'm almost done with a nice little scarf to wear with my jeans.

New Year's Resolutions....AKA Goals

Jim and I had a lazy day and took advantage of it being the last day of the holiday season. I'm still trying to get over this cough that has been lingering on. It's back to work tomorrow, even for us retired folk!
Etsy orders to ship, Christmas decoration to take down, laundry waiting to be done and it's my week to see dad and get back into that routine.
I did have time to think about some New Year's resolutions. I prefer to think of them as goals~something to work toward, improve or even change in my life. Oh yes, the list is always long, but what do I really want to improve this year?* Healthy eating is always on the top of the list. I haven't been doing too well with this one over the holidays! Jim and I want to expand our gardening this year and grow a few more things. We were happy with our results last summer and think we can expand.
*I want to give God His time everyday and spend more time in His Word.
*I hope to get my cottage in better working order. I'm moving forward to it becoming a studio....someday!
*I'm learning more about Etsy and hope that my shoppe becomes more "me" and I'd like to be ahead on the holiday posts and maybe add more handmade items.
*I'd like to spend more time with friends or maybe I should say, I need to make more time for friends. I so enjoyed being with special friends over the Christmas season.
*I hope to spend more time sewing and quilting this year. It's always my wish to make more time for both. I really want to sew my poor dolls more outfits. I have patterns, books, fabric and laces...no excuses.
*I so want to slow down and enjoy the journey everyday....
So I think I have some special goals that have great meaning to me and I'm asking God to help me reach my goals for 2012 whle I keep MY HEART RIGHT!

I like to pick a theme each New Year's Eve to focus on for the New Year. 2011 was a year of JOY for me and it was a word filled with many blessings.
As I was searching and waiting for my word for 2012, my husband and I had a conversation about a family gathering and some of the people there who really had a "good heart" and were trying to do the right thing. We were talking about it and I thought it might be good to focus on the phrase-Is Your Heart Good? I can watch for, honor and keep my heart GOOD this year. I think part of keeping your heart good is keeping a good attitude.
So there it is....Happy New Year to you all and remember to keep your heart good as you go into this brand new and hopeful New Year!

Teacup Thursday # 39 Auld Lang Syne

The clock is ticking on and it will soon be New Years! I found this plate at an estate sale last fall and bought it with the good intention of selling it....well....I just had to keep it and have been waiting to post it with today's Teacup Thursday hosted by Miss Spenser.

A few years ago, our dear friends Ed and Yoka who live in Powell River BC Canada, gave us this
wonderful cup and saucer. It's one of my favorites and I just love it. It has the quote from Auld Lang Syne on one side and Best Wishes for Xmas on the other side.

The cup is made by Adderley and is English. I love the green handle, holly and mistletoe that has that raised paint touches that were added by hand.

Have you ever wondered what the words Auld Lang Syne acutally mean? I looked it up and it means
"Times Gone By" and it's Scottish from the 1700's. So now you know what you're singing when you sing Auld Lang Syne on New Year's Eve.

So here's to a great New Year! I like even years, so I'm ready for 2012. Wishing you the best and God's many blessings.

Jim and I like to save all our Christmas cards and mail until we have time to open them all together, so this morning was the day. How fun to have coffee in the tea room and just savor the cards and letters from our family and so many friends that we only hear from once a year. It was very sweet. The theme this years seemed to be aging parents and grandchildren. Life goes on.....

Teacup Thursday # 38 and Angie's Party!

As the end of the year approaches, it's time for another Christmas teacup for Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday! This is such a pretty cup that we picked up at an estate sale. I love the gentle colors and the holly pattern.

It is marked Silesia-Clarion-Old Ivory XXII. Silesia is now a part of Poland. I really don't know the age of this cup and saucer.

Angie's mid century cocktail/Christmas party was great fun! Her home was all decorated and really cute. She had lots of fun 1950's and 1960's food to nibble on. Had a great time seeing my sisters, my niece Amanda and all my friends plus Angie's friend's who came decked out in their vintage mid century holdiay dresses.

Jim and I went to visit Bev and Roy today. Roy did some restoration on a painting for Jim and I finally gave Bev the quilt I made for her in the summer! She wasn't feeling very well as she has had pneumonia
We took them an Oregon land grant as a Christmas present and had a nice visit. Bev had this doll wrapped up for me...a beautiful china head. Oh, how I love china heads. She made the dress for this dolly years ago. We had such a nice visit and she loved the quilt.
I think I'm going to christen her.....Miss Martha Elizabeth. Martha was one of the most popular girl's names during the Civil War and it was one of Mary Todd Lincoln's sister's name. Bev said she is a child and it was acceptable for her petty coat to show under her dress. Her china boots are fantastic.
Of course I wanted to cry given such a amazing gift, but she told me...."Don't you cry now!", so I tried very hard to keep the tears back. She has graced me with so many dollies. I have never had anyone give me such wonderful gifts....I feel so blessed and happy.
Thank you dear Bev. I will cherish Miss Martha Elizabeth forever.

The first annual Wuitschick cookie event last Sunday was so much fun! Debbie's family made my mom's sugar cookie dough for us all...tons of it! We all brought our favorite cookie cutters and the fun began for four generations. Alisa has custody of the cookie cutters we used when we were little and she brought them. Here we are looking over them and telling funny stories.

Everyone got into the fun! Rolling dough, cutting out, baking and frosting!

Papa came for the fun too, walker and all. He's responsible for this big gang!

This was Jimmy's first time with a rolling pin!

All the cousins and we having a great time with plenty of laughs.

It's here already! Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday. The Advent calendars are zooming towards the big day so quickly now...yikes. This is a pretty little cup and saucer that I found at an estate sale a few weeks ago. It's called Holly and was made in Japan. Not sure of the age.

It's quite early in the morning and I haven't been to bed yet. Was working on my Christmas cards and just wanted to get them done.

Here's a picture of something very cute that i got last year. It's actually a big book of matches. Luckily, it was never used. A fun advertising piece.

Dear Friends and Their Fantastic Families!

Last Sunday when Jim and I were visiting the Poulsbo,Bainbridge Island and Port Gamble area, we were kindly invited to a breakfast tea at the home of Clarice and dinner at the home of Angie. I met these friends about four years ago when LaVonne came out to visit. We became acquainted through my Tasha Tudor group and now they have become very dear friends which is one of the best things about our Tasha Tudor group.

Jim had never been to Clarice's home and it was all decorated for Christmas. Her Storybook Woods home is delightful and filled with all kinds of treasures. We got to meet David before he had to get some sleep...thanks David for staying up to meet us! Linda, Clarice's mom, was invited to join us~she's a Tashette too. Sweet lady and it's always nice to visit with her.
A yummy breakfast tea--Scottish eggs, maple scones, fresh fruit, and Clarice's famous Chocolate Cherry fruitcake! Lots if tea....lots!

Jim entertained us all and so enjoyed Chole and Auberne'. He had us all laughing! The girls are becoming young ladies now!

Looks like we are having a fun time, huh? So much fun, I never want my visits to end when I'm with these special friends.

Clarice, I know this isn't air brushed, but I like it anyway. It just make me smile and makes me happy you are my friend.

Love the village...she has a perfect space to set it up so all can enjoy. Here's a few fun pix of a few of her other Christmas delights. I wish I would have taken some more pictures, but I was too busy talking!

This was here little "Steampunk" Christmas tree in the kitchen. Very creative and pretty cool. I know she's featuring her tree ornaments on her blog....Storybook Woods...so you can get a really good look at her creations. Thank you Clarice for everything. We had a wonderful time with you and yours!
About 4:30 PM we drove over to Angie and Ralph's country home. Their home is so cozy and peaceful and filled with the history of both of their families. John and Elizabeth are great kids! John kept finding his treasures and collections to share with Jimmy and that was a big hit! Little boys are a rare treat in our world. It as just great to sit around the table and share dinner and time with each other. Another great family! Angie is a marvelous cook too...stew, roasted squash, rice, potatoes, fresh salad with pears and toasted pecans(YUMMY). Angie served ice cream with gingerbread and whiskey soaked raisins from her Dutch neighbor. I wish I had some right now, oh so good. She also served a delicious fruitcake.
I think you can see how this family loves and cares for each other in these pictures.

Thank you Angie and Ralph for opening your home and spending the evening with us. It just flew by so quickly, too quickly! It will live in our hearts for a long time.
Again, I was so busy chatting, I didn't take enough pictures of their home, but here's a few. Angie is a very gifted doll maker.

North to Washington!

Jim and I left home yesterday morning for a little birthday get-a-way, Christmas shopping, and seeing some dear friends. We're staying in Poulsbo WA again~ such a cute town and nestled in a beautiful part of the Northwest.

Today was spent in Port Gamble...the most quaint little town that was a company town and is actually still owned and maintained by the Pope and Talbot company. It has the feel and look of a little New England village as the original people who built it were from the east. It's no longer a working lumber community. Here we are in the General Store...a great place to eat and shop.

We enjoyed the wine tasting with this delightful man! He did such a great job. The dessert wine was just unbelievable.

Jolly Old St Nick was seeing the children in a wonderful Victorian home. The house is empty and last summer we peeked in the windows, but couldn't go into it. We went in today and had a chance to look around. The little ones were making gingerbread houses, ornaments for feeding the birds and some enjoying other things set up for the children.

We enjoyed a delightful chat with Jean who was spinning in the weaver's shop. She had the best stories and was willing to share them with the two of us. I just love to watch people spin...so peaceful.

One of the most charming businesses is the Tea Shoppe! It was all decorated and Jim had a cocoa.

There was even a bag pipe player...oh, love to hear the pipes!

We stayed for the tree lightening at 5 PM. The weather was good-no rain but chilly!

We had such a fantastic day! This sure has been quite the birthday!

More fun tomorrow with a visit to Clarice's and Angie's.

Just got home from meeting friends for lunch for my birthday! What a surprise. I knew my quilting partner was treating me, but had no idea two of my other friends from Maupin, my "Maupin Sisters" as they refer to themselves, were meeting me. I was waiting for Peggy to park her car and I heard someone say, hi Linda. It was Gloria. She said she was on her way home from the beach and and stopped by. I invited her to join us and they were all cool as a cucumber...then my other friend Kathy appeared, they piled up presents on the table and started laughing! I was so so so surprised, I couldn't believe it. Such a fun time at the Troutdale General Store!

So, here it is almost 5 PM PST and I'm just now posting my entry for Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday.
This is one of my favorite cup and saucers. I got it a few years ago in the town I was born in....Yakima, Washington! Seems like a good day to post this special teacup. It's Haviland and so dainty. I love it.

You know I am drawn to anything with holly, so don't you think this is perfect for me? So pretty. I wonder if there was an entire set of this pattern or just a teacup.I forgot to take out the little battery operated candle sitting inside, so that's what you can see in this photo.

So Happy Teacup Thursday. I think I'll have birthday cake and a cup of tea when I get back home from dinner tonight. Burrrrrr-it's clear and cold outside. The moon is almost full too. A St Nicholas Day and Birthday Celebration!

I participate in a Tasha Tudor ornament exchange on St Nick's Day and since my birthday is so close (Dec 8th), I have been celebrating it on Dec 6th too. Most of us have tea at some point in the day and open our gift. Since Jim is retired now, he can share the afternoon with me.My plans changed a bit today, as we had a family matter to attend to. The afternoon tea became dinner and dessert.

I started the day off with a wonderful birthday gift from my dear husband. He has arranged for Christine Crocker to make me one of her dolls! I am so excited! What a wonderful gift and treasure that is going to be. This was the note I found this morning in my tearoom. Thank you Jimmy.

These are my treats from Mimi...thank you Mimi for my fun box. I especially like the button tree. I'm glad you had my name.
I had Catherine's name for the ornament exchange. She loves Corgis so I based my gift to her on Tasha's book A Corgiville Christmas with a plaid theme. She lives in Tennessee.

LaVonne sent me my birthday gift and she just knows me so well. I always love her gifts. My word for this year was JOY. Can you believe she found this sign for me? She raises sheep, so this sweet little ornament has great meaning and it's just so adorable. Thank you my dearest friend. Annabelle sends a big thank you to Annabelle of MT for the ornaments for her tree.

Wilhelmina sent me a wonderful gift too! A fabulous book as we love Fairy Tales. It's a die cut pop out book that's wonderful. Lots of other goodies too...I didn't get the two ornaments she sent to me in the photo, but they are so cute. You're a doll my friend.

Dear Sha, thanks so much for your gifts. You have such good taste and I'm so pleased to get another year's subscription for Pieceworks! It's such a wonderful present. I really enjoy reading it every month.

The dolls are all ready to join the fun today. Annabelle's home is decorated and Hitty is in the kitchen with her. Looks like it's time for some Christmas baking at the doll's home.

I'll end with some pictures of our little dinner/dessert St. Nick's tea. It was yummy and turned out to be very special. I made my Dundee cake this year in a fantastic ceramic Christmas loaf pan that my sister Alisa gave me a few years ago. It baked so well, I will be using it every year.

Teacup Thursday #35-December 1st and the Season of Advent

December 1st! I have been decorating my home for days and here it is the first of December. My birthday is next week, so I always try to get the house all ready for Christmas before my birthday. My youngest Gina was born on my birthday, so I do it for her too!
And here we are at Miss Spenser's Teacup Thurssday once again. I decided to feature my December cup and saucer to celebrate the beginning of the season. My husband found it for me during the summer.

It's living in my tearoom that is all ready for the the Advent season.

I have always loved Advent calendars since I was a little girl. I still give my grown daughters a chocolate one every Thanksgiving to mark the season. This year, they gave me one. I ate the first one with my morning coffee...yummy.

I grew up with the German paper type. All glittery and waiting for the next day. These are my very favorite. I also have a very small one that's newer.

This is a wooden one the I found at the thrift store a few years ago. You turn the date over to reveal the little shape. I live to do it the opposite way.

Of course I have to include my Tasha Tudor Advent Calendar. It's in a book and I never have opened the windows and most likely never will. I am glad to have one in my collection.

I have also loved having a candle Advent wreath to anticipate the coming of the Sweet Baby Jesus. Advent started last Sunday but sadly, I am behind a bit. My wreath is always packed up with my Christmas things and it sneaks up on me. My friend Natalie gave me the wonderful book that I enjoy every year with meaningful daily readings.

So let the season begin! I'm hoping to do a little digital Advent calendar this year on my blog. I hope I can pull it off. Happy Advent to all.

Holiday Expo~Vintage Christmas Memories

This is our latest booth! Seems like we've been doing so many shows this year. My girls have been covering the hours at the show for the last three days. I'm so thankful for their work! I thought I was going to have to be there, but my wonderful daughters let old mom off the hook. I've been trying to get my fall stuff down, house cleaned and Christmas up! The booth was mostly mid century and vintage goodies. Lots of stuff but fun stuff!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my blogger friends, Tasha friends, Teacup Thursday friends and everyone else.
My girls and I set up for a Christmas show yesterday and the girls will man most of the hours over the next two weekends.
We're off to have dinner with my family at my sister's home. My future son in law is driving down from Seattle as I write to meet the family. I'm sure he will be glad when this is behind him and he can just relax with the family! I'm excited to see him again too. I'll post pix of the show booth and the dinner later.
I'm taking a break from most of computer for a bit.
I feel so thankful for the many blessings God has showered on me and my family this year.

Teacup Thursday #34

I'm sitting in my cozy little home with my woodstove chugging away. It was such a wet and stormy day...a taste of what's to come. Jim is in Illinois again so I'm home alone for a week. I've been working on paperwork, letter writing, reading and posting more Etsy things. I cannot believe how quickly the days slip away, especially with the time change. I've also been trying to get back on my healthy eating cutting the sugar and carbs for awhile. Oh, all I could think of today was a pumpkin scone!

This is a photo of a beautiful Spode plate that I found earlier this spring. Those of you who know me, know that I just love brown, so this was a special find. I love dishes with interesting boarders.

So here we are again...time for Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday! How can the weeks just fly by???
This is my very favorite pattern for Thanksgiving-Wild Turkey by Johnson Brothers. I have the dinner dishes for this pattern too. We'll be going to my sister's for the big dinner, so I won't be setting a big table this year.

I mix and match some of this pattern- His Majesty-with the Wild Turkey. I'll save some other I use to share with everyone next year.

This makes for a nice dessert and coffee set...pumpkin pie or apple pie? I do like pecan pie too. Saddly, I like them all.

It's almost time to take down the fall decorations and I realized I didn't post my pumpkin house. I made this a few years ago with LaVonne's encouragement. We found the little crows at a thrift store on her first visit to see me on her first trip out from Montana. She told me how to make the house and walked me through it, as so often does when it comes to our crafting! It was so fun, I'd love to make another one someday.

The little bunny that I received in my Tasha Tudor Fall exchange just fit right in with my pumpkin house. She is right at home.
I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. It's such a nice holiday to be enjoyed. So many blessings this year.

Sweet Sarah Moog and Her Yummi-bears!

I was at a flea market on Sunday and I met the most delightful sweet young woman, holding a darling little girl in her arms. Sarah is an artist who creates the most adorable tiny bears and a few other critters. She should be showing her items off in a gallery! I added her blog to my blog list on the right, and you will be in awe if you visit her blog. I was reading along and that wee babe in her arms came early, so I'm sure this young mom is super busy with two children now.
She also told me here husband has been building her a studio out of reclaimed items and things found on Craig's list. Don't you love stories like that!
Sarah....I think one of your bears should be living in a tea cup!

UFO Quilt Retreat Nov 2011

Last weekend Columbia River Gorge Retreats hosted our 6th quilting retreat. This was our second one at our new home at the Best Western in Washougal WA. After a rocky start and help from the manager Chris, we finally got things set up and rolling. I think I posted earlier that I was working on the pampering gifts, but I couldn't post the pix as I didn't want to spoil the surprise. This was our UFO retreat...unfinished projects and we had a fun alien, robot, space theme. We always make a pincushion for our guests. Peggy made the flying saucers this time.

Here's the other pampering gifts for you to see! These were so much fun this time...fun to be a kid!

We had to set up the room late Thursday night to greet our quilters in the morning as we had a bit of a problem when we arrived. It was fun to have the ladies come in the next morning and find all the decorations.

Veteran's Day

Today is Veteran's Day in the USA....a day off for many folks. I was watching a program on public broadcasting last night on the Viet Nam war and it brought back so many memories that have been tucked away. I don't come from a military family. My dad was too young for WWII and having two small children during the Korean war, he wasn't called to duty. My only brother was in college during the Viet Nam conflict, so he was never drafted. That was a difficult time for our country and it really took me years to respect the military. I have four nephews from Jim's brother Allyn's family that have been in the service, two over in Iraq over the years, and one is still in the Navy. I was in tears last night watching the program, listening to men and women my age telling their horrible stories. I guess I just want to say thank you to all who have served this mighty country. I never favor war as a solution, but it seems to happen. I'm sure our many veterans would have rather been safe at home...I had that luxury. Thank you to all.

Teacup Thursday #33

I had to miss Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday last week and I didn't even have time to post anything before I left for my quilt retreat. It was a week ago and I'm still trying to get back to normal. My clients had a great time and we have bookings for next November, but it was a difficult event. Lots to work out with my business partner.

Moving on now....it's still fall and the weather is turning colder. Jim brought more wood up and chopped up lots of kindling for me. Snow tires are on the cars, storm windows are on and I guess we are almost ready for winter. A few more things to do in the yard to shut it all down.
I ADORE acorns and acorn decor! I saved this acorn cup and saucer for today as it is one of my favorites.
It's Austrian and very delicate.

Jim bought this acorn needle keep for me this summer in Port Townsend. It's called vegetable ivory and is actually carved from nuts the same way that ivory was carved. Very Victorian.

I found a thimble made of the same material that I didn't know I had. It's just such an interesting medium.
Sweet little thing with it's crocheted holder.

I've gathered a few other acorn treasures over the years. We don't have any oak trees, just maples, so friends have given me acorns.

When I returned home Sunday night from the retreat, I had a package waiting for me from my Tasha friend Suzanne in MA. It sure came at the right time and cheered me up. Her card and personal note were so kind...thanks again Suzanne! I love my treats and our friendship.

Jim's Expo Antique Show

Jim had another antique show this past weekend at the Expo center in Portland. I helped him set up and take down his booth. He has developed quite a following for his "manly" booth and he has some really interesting customers...very knowledgeable and sharing. He took more art work this time and did well with it.

This is a print from AB Frost from 1911 that he had rematted and it's really a great print. I was glad this one didn't sell, as I have fallen in love with it. Great for November decorating!

LaVonne found him some Boy Scout items and he had a nice little section to offer. He wants me to put the items that he still has on Etsy, so I'll do that soon for him. I think he has some fun items.

His booth had a lot of wood and leather items along with some fly fishing, hunting and camping gear. Most was made in the USA which seems to be quite appealing these days.

His next show will be in January after the holidays. It's a smaller one at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Washington, but he likes doing that one. He'll have a bit more time to "go shopping" before that sale.

Here's the happy dealer squeezed in with all his wares! He is a natural salesman. Well done Jimmy!

Kelly had her booth a few doors down. She the great gal we met last summer at the show. It was great to see her and her little boy Wilder...and her husband too. Sadly, I didn't get a photo of her this time. I hope you got to see the cute little Halloween item she gave me in my previous post.
It's November 1st and time to move on to Thanksgiving. I'm going to take a break from my quilt retreat work today to take down Halloween and put up Thanksgiving. It's chilly here in Oregon...time to get the woodstove fired up. Autumn continues!

I like to call Halloween ~Pumpkin Moonshine Day~ after Tasha Tudor's delightful book also called Pumpkin Moonshine. It was her first book and was published in 1938!

A busy day doing shopping and planning for our upcoming quilt retreat this week. Peggy and I got alot done and I am beginning to get excited. I can't share too much yet as I don't want to spoil the fun.
I have been blessed with so many friends and I want to share some gifts I received recently.
My friend Sha sent this felted potholder. She appreciates handmade items and has such good taste in the gifts she chooses. I love it and it's bright and playful colors.

One of my Tasha friend in Topeka KS-Jan-sent me a wonderful pinkeep that she made. She is quite a
quilter and her work is just perfect. The tiny quilt block in the center is darling. I will cherish this forever.

As I was leaving the antique show on Sunday, Kelley, who was next to our booth last summer, gave me this little beauty. Her mother made some for her to sell at the show. So cute... thanks Kelley, it was so fun to see you again and I loved your booth! Her little boy Wilder was there off and on. One night he was crying when they left because he didn't want to go home. Now that's the way to bring up the next generation.
Halloween is almost over and we only had a handful of Trick- or -Treaters. It sure isn't a fun night like it was when I was growing up. Memories...
Well, on to Thanksgiving!

October Fun!

The nights have turned a bit chilly and October is almost over! Our days have been so delightful. The birds have been active and I saw my first Flicker...they only visit us in the fall and in the winter. The Juncos are back too. Although our seasons are not severe, we do get to experience each true season in this part of Oregon.
And so on to Teacup Thursday with Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday. Today, I'm sharing a little set of four yellow Japanese lusterware cup and saucers. They are small, pale yellow and very sweet. I thought they'd be perfect with my Halloween teapot dressed up in it's candy corn tea cozy.

Don't forget to read Tasha Tudor's Pumpkin Moonshine! It's the cutest little story. I like to call my carved pumpkin a Pumpkin Moonshine! Happy Halloween and time to start thinking about Thanksgiving. I love Turkey Time. Cherish this special time of the year with your friends and family.

Estate Sale and Show Finds

Jim and I did some antique shopping and estate sailing on Sunday afternoon and we found a few really special treasures. He found this great Fairy Soap box that we can use for displaying mdse at our shows for now. It's in pretty good condition...the paper label isn't real great but all in all, it's a fun piece.

We offered the people at an estate sale a bid on this really nice vintage quilt from the Depression era. I was thrilled that they accepted our offer and brought home this little beauty complete with prairie points.
All hand quilted and good bright colors. I really like this quilt and you can't even make a quilt for the price we paid for this vintage one!

I was delighted to find this quality embroidery hoop...the wood is beautiful and I know I'll enjoy using it. It's just different from any that I own.

Those of you who know me, know that I have been longing for a vintage child's sewing machine. They are spendy and I just hadn't found one in my price range or it just wasn't the right color or vintage. LaVonne always tells me to be patient and things will come to me in due time. We walked into the Rose City Collector's show and the very first thing we saw was this sweet little machine! Just the right size, look, time period....everything was right along with the price! I still can't believe it. It's a Christmas present, so I only got to look at it once and then Jim took it away! December isn't that far away! LOL

An older man was selling it and he said he was closing out his antique shop. He said this had been his mother's. I like to believe that it was but of course you never know.

One of the blog posts I was reading inspired me to go outside and take a few pictures. The blueberry bushes are beginning to change color. We got quite a nice little harvest this year.

The holly berries are getting ready for Christmas. I love holly. One of my favorite Christmas carols is The Holly and the Ivy.

And last of all, here's my squirrel friend Buddy. He practically taps on my door waiting for peanuts or other goodies. He's so cute. I have great bird feeders that keep the squirrels off, so never have to worry about that. Buddy has his own feeder, as well as free handouts! I hope you are enjoying these last precious days of autumn.

Fall continues to delight in the Pacific Northwest! The sun is shining this morning as I write and it looks like another beautiful autumn day. It is my favorite season and I'm glad there are weeks left to enjoy.
It's Teacup Thursday once again with Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday! I hope you pop over to her blog so you can enjoy all the wonderful post and more teacups to covet!

Here's some fun fall books I own and was enjoying this morning. AN ENGLISH COTTAGE YEAR by Sally Holmes and Tracey Williamson is charming~filled with thoughts, recipes, and fun quotes about fall. My favorite for today is "Nothing I like better than a baked apple." Jane Austen, Emma. Oh I agree with you Emma. I think I need to make some more soon!

I think the pumpkin soup bowls are longing for another pot of soup....maybe lentil soup this time?

So here is my Teacup Thursday offering today. It another fall cup and saucer that I found when I was going through things a few weeks ago. It has a bit of wear but I really like the leaves cascading all round as if the wind was blowing them here and there. It's made by Royal Stafford-made in England.
My photo of the marks is a bit blurring as I'm running late this week with my posting and then I had some technical problems with the computer!

I hope you are savoring these last weeks of fall. I'm busy with the final projects for my November retreat and I'm still trying to build up my photos and postings on my Etsy site. Our daughter Angie's birthday party is this Saturday night. It should be fun as we are going to an "Elvis" show with all her mid century loving friends! Should be fun......can't believe she's turning 35!

Tasha Tudor Group Fall Exchange

My Tasha Tudor Take Peace group does a few gift exchanges through out the year. We had been discussing mice and bunnies in September, so we decided to have a fall exchange and suggested that we include a little mouse or bunny. Many of us like to make things, so it's nice if you can send something handmade. I think we had 14 people participate this time and it was really fun.When LaVonne was out visiting me, we made little wool cut mice using her beautiful yarn from her sheep in Montana. We really had a ball making these. She was so patient with me-she's a great craft teacher. She works as an artist in residence back home with children, so I guess I she could handle me! I couldn't post pictures of the little darlings before as I didn't want to spoil the surprise for anyone!

I spent my package to Sandra in France. Here's a picture of my package just before it was sent so far away! We sure know how to have celebrate.

Yesterday, the mailman brought me a package from Terri who lives in New York. I saved it until this morning so Jim could see me open it while we were having our coffee.

This is what I found when I opened it up! What a fall greeting for me! I was so excited!!!!

I spread everything out on the floor so I could get a good picture of all the treats. She even included a box of Earl Grey tea which I love.

I love this little fall bunny. She might have to live in my tea room with all my dolls. I think she'd be happy there!

Terri made this wool pin with a cool button which looks vintage. What a fun project, and it will look really great on my coat.

Look at this happy little ceramic squirrel candle holder and tea light. Just makes you feel like fall.

I hung the scarecrow on my chair...he can welcome my guests when they come in.

So, a big heartfelt thank you to Terri. She's a new member on our group and I think she qualifies as a Tashette now.

Quilt Show at Aurora Colony

Jim really enjoyed sitting inside the little cabin with coffee and cookies. The fire was going in the fireplace and it was so warm and cozy inside. They had a little store set up inside with the proceeds going to the Aurora Colony. Of course, I had to help them out by purchasing just a few items! I found a little ironing board for Annabelle too but I don't think she was too pleased with it when I brought it home to her! Too much like work.

Here's an assortment of vintage quilts and new quilts that were hanging in the museum.

The theme this year was "Bountiful Oregon" and this is the quilt that is being raffled off. It is hand quilted by a group of ladies that meet each week at the colony to do hand quilting.

This is the featured quilter was Mary Doak and she had her amazing quilt on display...NATIVE SPIRIT and it was based on the coastal Native American and First Nation tribes. Not your traditional quilt, but my favorite of the show.

She was very kind and loved sharing the story behind her very special quilt. It was fun to visit with her.

I took this photo of one of the volunteers doing some hand quilting. She's often there working on quilts. I'm sorry I didn't get her name.

Of course I found a doll upstairs in the children's room...a doll and a doll house!

Such a fun event! We went on to Hubbard and bought German sausage and the most wonderful bacon at the Voget meat market. We've been going there for about 40 years!
Stopped at our friend's stand for some apples and lots of veggies...tomatoes, squash, cauliflower-even some egg plant. Pat and Bernie are just a riot. I was disappointed that they didn't have their famous apple cider ready yet.

Then onto the Glockenspiel restaurant for a fabulous German meal at Mt Angel. YUMMY and such a cute place. A great day with my hubby. Thank you Jim for such nice day.

Teacup Thursday #30

I always give a full moon report to my Tasha Tudor group every month and this October moon is called The Hunter's Moon which was actually full on Tuesday night. It's very appropriate as my husband Jim received a gift in the mail from his friend Frank in Illinois...a hunting license. He invited him to come back to Illinois to hunt on his farm in November. Jim was so thrilled and surprised.
So, I decided to feature a fall cup that has a hunter on it-perfect-for Miss Spencer's Teacup Thursday.

I've had this cup and saucer for years and just found it again. It's made by Royal Albert and is called

Hunting in Canada. It has two ducks in the inner cup. I always like an image inside the cup!

I made this little quilt and wanted to use it with the moon theme here. It hangs over a vintage oak primary school chair.

We have been enjoying the last of the season's wonderful tomatoes~the small ones from our garden and the very last cucumber. The large ones are from our favorite Italian veggie stand. Bacon and tomato sandwiches tomorrow night! I also tried a delicious baked apple dish from my dear friend Wilhelmina.

I won this darling SPRING embroidery pattern from sweet Fay at Simply.....I'm so excited as I love to do embroidery work and won't this be a fun project to work on during the winter months. Humm...maybe a little quilt or wall hanging! Work Work Work!

Ahhhh...I've spent the last few days working on my Etsy site! It takes a great deal of time to get things listed, especially when you're new at it all. LaVonne has been a great help and I so appreciate all her free advise! She's going to hit her 1000th sale soon, so I have a great mentor.
I think my Etsy will be like my blog. You kind of have to find your way and jump in. It seems to develop into a part of you before long.
I have been a collector for most of my life, so I have many, many, many different things to list! I haven't touched so many areas yet, but I'm working on it. I hope that I can plan out next year ahead of time. Having a retail background, it's hard to turn that off! I'm mostly doing vintage items at this point, but would like to add things that I make as I journey down this path.

Teacup Thursday #29

A chilly fall evening and I'm tempted to start a fire in the woodstove! My husband has been gone for two weeks, helping his family in Springfield, Illinois with his 93 year old mother. He was more than ready to come home this morning. Jim comes in tonight at 11:45 PM...yawn.I made him some pumpkin muffins this afternoon and our home smells spicy and yummy. Of course I had to try them out and decided it was time to get my Teacup Thursday things together. Recently, I found a little set of Johnson Brothers Apple Harvest that I had forgotten all about. It's a cute little farm scene, somewhat whimsical.

I love apples and found this apple cookbook~yum! I think I've commented on the fact that I was born in Yakima, Washington and I love apples. I found a recipe in this book for Apple Kuchen. My German grandmother made the best Kuchen. She used to make it for my dad when she came to visit and I have to confess, I kind of nibbled it away. Sorry dad but it was just too delicious. Unfortunately, Grandma never wrote down her recipe and no one really knows how she made it. I do remember how it taste.

I had to settle for tea and a pumpkin muffin...not bad for Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday. Are you enjoying this autumn?

Miniature Show

I didn't get to post my pix of the miniature show that LaVonne and I went to last Sunday. It was so much fun to go with a friend who loves minis as much as I do. Our dolls got spoiled again. LaVonne won a door prize too...a battery light fixture that was really neat.

We met a lady and her mom and I have to go check out her blog. She had taken quite a new interest in her doll from the past. Here's a picture of her and her doll.

These little girls were enjoying the grab bags! They were so cute and so excited and it was pretty fun to watch them. They went back for more goodies after opening the first bags. I thought about buying one...

Good Bye LaVonne....

I took LaVonne to the airport late this afternoon to send her back home to Montana. We had such a fun visit and so much fun! The house is very quiet and empty tonight. Wish we lived closer, but we sure are blessed to be able to see each other as often as we do! Miss ya my friend! Hope you have a good week and get that puppy soon. Who's going to make my coffee tomorrow morning????

LaVonne's visit and just too much fun!

LaVonne has been here since Monday night and we are just having way too much fun! She is an easy guest, so helpful, fun and just a JOY to have here with me!
Here's some pictures from Day #1...shopping at the bins!

Yes, Day #1 netted us a trunk load of goodies!

So one to Day #2! We met Morgan at the Salvation Army thrift store and then on to the Dessert thrift store. Morgan was on the old Tasha Tudor site and she and LaVonne are on another group together, so it was so nice to finally meet her. She lives in Portland and we share the same birthday, but we had never met. She was fun and we had so much to talk about and share. I'm afraid LaVonne and I wore her out! So here are some photos of the loot from Day #2.

As you can see, we are having so much fun-can you hear the laughs? Good times, good friends!

On Day #3, we were going to stay home and craft until we checked the internet for estate sales. We decided we had to go to one ASAP! I got us a bit lost and we had to return to the house for the correct address so Helga (GPS) could help us get there! It was worth all the effort as it was a FANTASTIC sale. I was loaded with "stuff" as the owner had been quite a collector. We left some money there, but what treasures we got...some to keep and some to sell. On the way home we stopped at a small sale run by some Sunday School friends of a little old German man...Oscar. The man in the garage who was his friend, was just the most kind soul. He had a peaceful comforting way about him and shared stories about Oscar with us. It was so sweet and touching. LaVonne and I both come from German families who went to Russia before journeying onto America and the Dakotas. LaVonne bought a wonderful Good Shepherd print for her collection and I know she remember that day when she looks at the print.
She also found a darling German sewing box with mushroom attachments~so perfect for her. We left the little home with such feelings that we could hardly speak.

We did finally stay home on Day #4 to do some crafting. We had to work on our Fall Tasha Tudor Exchange project. We spent most of the day working on this, but I must say, they turned out so cute! We hate to part with our creations! LaVonne's will be going to NY and mine will be leaving for France. I can't show the finished product yet as I don't want to ruin the suprise.

Once again, the day had slipped away and we decided to go to The Poor Farm for dinner as it's one of LaVonne's favorite places to eat. What a fabulous dinner we had-scallops with winter squash and chipotle butter sauce. Oh oh oh, so good~we put our jammies on and ended the day with a full tummy and a happy heart.

Yummy yummy yummy! I'm sure LaVonne will post about the rest of dinner, so I'll leave that for her.

Going to a miniature show tomorrow, so I better get some sleep.

Teacup Thursday #28 and Company!

My dear friend LaVonne arrived Tuesday night from Montana. She is a "Harvest Blessing" to me! I usually plan her time here with lots of things to do and lots of people to see. She has really had a difficult summer so we decided we wouldn't over plan her stay this time and just take it day by day, staying close to home. She brought treats for me so wanted to share a few.

This is a delicious butterscotch vintage kitchen bowl-the kind I just love. I have never seen one in this color and I will treasure it.

This is a close up of a wonderful English biscuit tin. The little lady looks like our Tasha Annabelle dolls.

Doesn't this little guy make you smile? He's an egg separator made in Bozeman MT. He'll come in handy and is just so cute. She also brought us ham hocks, spareribs and a chicken from her farm-packed frozen in her suitcase!!! Thanks LaVonne!

We went to the Goodwill "bins" today where you pay by the pound. It's one of LaVonne's favorite places to go when she visits me. We spent four hours there and had the best time and found tons of treasures. My husband calls it root hoggin' and that's what we were doing! The hunt is half of the fun. I forgot my camera, but will take some pictures before we unpack the car tomorrow.
Of course we had to stop for coffee after that and then on to the craft store. It was almost 7 PM when we got back into the car! I took her to dinner at my favorite Thai food restaurants which was a first and a hit for her. YUMMY.

Oh yes...it is time for Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday! I'm showing another one of my fall teacups. This one is by Ridgefield Potteries LTD and I love the fall pattern.

I better get to bed so I can be ready for another day of fun with LaVonne! And belated birthday wishes to sweet Miss Spenser. I hope you had a delightful birthday and my best to you in the coming year.

The house is all clean after the summer avoidance! I always scrub it all down before I decorate and when you have company coming, well, you just have to clean, clean, clean! I do have to admit that I don't enjoy housework like I used to. I guess that's OK considering all the years I've put into that chore.
Jim is in Illinois helping his family with his 93 year old mother, so it will just be us girls when my friend arrives tonight. Her flight lands around 6 PM in the Rose City and we will have almost a week to just play and craft our brains out (my friend Nancy's favorite saying).
I have to get some groceries and bake us some pumpkin scones. How does a nice cup of hot spiced cider sound? The weather has turned wet and chilly, but the sun will return tomorrow and it looks like some perfect fall days ahead! I love autumn.

Teacup Thursday #27

I have spent the last two days cleaning my home and getting my fall things up. I have a dear friend coming to visit next week, so decided I better get with it!
Years ago, I had a friend who introduced me to the whole "tea" thing. We both loved fall so we went on the hunt for fall tea cups. We really had to hunt for them! During that time, we both got into collecting Johnson Brothers's turkey patterns so my interest in the fall tea cups was put aside. I'll feature some of my turkey patterns in November. I was thinking all day about my fall cup and saucers and pulled them down this evening. I haven't looked at them for years. Now that I've joined Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursdays, the treasures are now more interesting to me once again.

This one is just so interesting. It's made in Japan, hand painted and called Autumn made by Lefton China. I usually don't like Lefton, but this one is just charming.

I love the houses, cows and the people.

I do love autumn. The weather has been a bit warm here again but I tried to ignore the 84 degrees and just kept decorating. I get inspired with my quilting in the fall. Here's a few examples of my projects.

Fall is in the air!

We arrived home yesterday after a wonderful trip! All in all, the weather was pretty nice and we enjoyed seeing our friend Angie. I'm sorry I didn't get to visit with Clarice, but her girls have chicken pox and poor mom was playing Nurse Nancy all weekend.

It's good to be home and it really feels like fall this morning. I'm going to start putting up my fall things over the next few days. Time to clean and decorate! Would love to skip the cleaning part but....

This is a magazine that I so enjoy. My Tasha friend Christine Crocker writes for the magazine and I always look forward to her articles.

Fiber Farm Tour and Our Dear Friend Angie

Jim and I are on another little fall get-a-way in the Olympic Peninsula up north. We left on Friday afternoon and it was such a beautiful fall day. Antiqued our way to Poulsbo and had a great fish and chips dinner outside on the deck! We all know that these days will soon be coming to an end.

Saturday morning we drove to one of the farms on the fiber farm tour in Quilcene. Our dear friend Angie Bickerton, was exhibiting her wares at the Taylored Fibers Farm owned and run by Linda and Barry Taylor.

This is Barry blending a customer's wool.It had silk in it and was just lovely!

Linda was outside selling her beautiful dyed wools...the colors are amazing and you just want to buy it all!

And now for the best part~Angie's booth and all of her goodies. She had needled felted dolls and figures along with some awesome wooden peg dolls and other wooden offerings. Of course, Old Saint Nick wanted to come to live at our home and guess what else??? Of course, a doll! I'll have to do a post on her later. She kindly gifted me with a treasure too. Thank you sweet Angie and you know I will treasure that little lady forever.

Teacup Thursday #26 and Very Good News to Share!

I know it's Miss Spenser's Teacup Thrusday, but I have some very good news to share and my head is still in the clouds. Jim and I went to dinner with Gina and Eric on Monday night and they shared with us that they are engaged! They had just returned from a trip to Alaska to meet his mother and family and they found a beautiful vintage ring and well....everything just happened. They won't get married until next October and they will be living in Seattle.

Here she is helping me with some computer work showing off that beautiful ring!

Gina got a call yesterday for an interview at a community college near Seattle for a teaching position....all very last minute. She had to leave and drive up last night. She has been looking for a job all summer without any results, so this is really an answer to lots of prayers! It's only for one class, but she will be able to get her foot in the door for more work down the road. She was so sad all week as she loves to teach. My head is still spinning.

Oh yes, back to Teacup Thursday! I chose a set that Jim picked up for me a few weeks ago as a pair~symbolic of the engaged couple. Really lovely cups, a bit of wear, but still so nice....made in France.

I think I'm really too excited to get into Teacup Thursday today. Even my pictures just didn't come out too well. but still wanted to share.

So Happy Teacup Thursday my friends. It's been quite a week for our family and I am so thanking God for His many blessings showered on us this week. The weather has cooled down too and maybe fall is on it's way in the Northwest now!
